Advocacy

AuSM has a full-time Advocacy team that can provide support for students experiencing harassment, trouble with AUT, grade appeals, financial hardship or those in need of legal info. Their services are free of charge and no appointment is necessary.

Events

AuSM organises a range of events and activities on all three campuses throughout the year, most of which are free for AUT students. Major events include Orientation (March), Battle of the Bands (May), Winter Fest (July) and October Odyssey but there is also weekly daytime events and social sport.

Student Magazine

debate is a free weekly publication that comes out every Monday during semester and is jam-packed with news, reviews, opinions, competitions, games and features. All students are welcome to contribute their art, writing, poetry, ideas and letters. Email the editor now.

Student bar

Vesbar is located on the City Campus and open Monday to Friday from 11am until late. The bar serves up pub food at student-friendly prices and has a wide range of drinks available. Don’t miss the Air Guitar Championship (March), NZ Music Month (May), regular poker nights and Tuesday pub quizzes.

Diary

AuSM produces the AUT student dairy and wallplanner each year. Pick up your free copy from AuSM offices.

Free Feeds

Hungry? AuSM provides a free lunch every week on your campus – Mondays at Manukau, Tuesdays at North Shore and Thursdays at City. The revolving menu includes a vegetarian option plus fresh fruit each week.

Food Bank

AuSM can provide food parcels for students experiencing financial hardship. Email the Advocacy team for more information.

Jobs and work experience

AuSM provides funding for Student Job Search and a representative is based in our City office. There are also work experience opportunities and part-time positions available at AuSM and other charity organisations.

Representation

On a national level, AuSM cooperates with other New Zealand universities to represent the common and collective concerns of students. Locally, AuSM provides representation through the President and Executive Council. There are AuSM representatives on committees and working groups within all levels of the university who ensure that your best interests are at the heart of AUT decision-making.

Transport Services

Full-time students qualify for a 40% discount on bus and train tickets. To qualify for the discount, bring your student ID to AuSM and we will give you a Maxx sticker.

Discount Directory

As a member of AuSM you are entitled to hundreds of discounts on everyday items like Pita Pit, KFC, Pulp Shoes, Specsavers and movie tickets. Register for your card here.

Clubs

AuSM provides grants, funding, support and promotion for a range of clubs on campus including sporting, cultural, religious, social and faculty-based groups.

AuSM Lodge

The AuSM Lodge is located in National Park and is the ideal place to go if you enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, snowboarding or kayaking. The Lodge can accommodate up to 12 people in bunks and there are an additional 8 floor mattresses. More about the Lodge

Sports

AuSM organises weekly social sport free of charge such as zumba, pilates, touch rugby and basketball. AuSM also organises teams to compete at Uni Games and other tournaments.

Lockers

AuSM has some lockers on City and North Shore campuses that are available on a per-semester basis. You’ll need to be quick as they go very fast. There is a $20 fee and you need to provide your own lock.

Lost Property

If you lose something on campus it should end up at the AuSM office. Contact us or drop in if you lose/find something.

Office services

Visit your nearest AuSM office for binding, locker hires, lost property, phone cards, international calling cards, Event Cinema (previously Skycity) Student cards, Entertainment Books, water, campus guides and campus information.

Classifieds

A free classified service is available to all AUT students. Buy, sell or trade your stuff without paying for the privilege.

De-stress Massages

AuSM hires professional massage therapists to provide 15-minute neck and shoulder massages free to students during exam time. Make sure you take advantage of the service and have a well-deserved break from the books during the stressful exam period.

What else do we do?

Post-Graduate Support

AuSM provides funding for post-graduate resources and supports the annual post-graduate symposium. AuSM also provides assistance to Maori and Pacific post-graduate students to enable a wananga (student workshop) series that will assist and support their studies.

Marae Breakfasts

AuSM provides funding and support for Marae breakfasts during the year.

AuSM Awards

AuSM gives you an opportunity to thank the lecturers and AUT staff who have made a difference to your life. The AuSM Awards take place every November, with nominations open from October. Stay tuned for more information around campus.

Blue Awards

AuSM provides funding and support to the Blue Awards each year. The formal event celebrates the achievements of AUT’s top athletes and features well-known sporting and television personalities.
