Academic Orientation for new students in Semester 1, 2010

Orientation is an opportunity to meet your programme leader and ask questions about your course. It will include:

  • Meeting your student mentor and other students doing your course
  • A welcome to AUT University
  • Information on your course
  • Campus tours
  • Information on student support and the library
  • How to access AUT computers and online resources

City Campus Undergraduate Orientation – Monday February 22nd and Tuesday February 23rd

City Campus Postgraduate Orientation and City Campus Parents, Partners and Family/Adult and Part-time students Evening Orientation – Wednesday February 24th

North Shore Campus Postgraduate Orientation – Thursday February 25th

North Shore Campus Undergraduate Orientation – Friday February 26th

The date for Manukau campus Under-graduate and Post-graduate Orientation will be posted on the AUT website as soon as it is finalised.

AuSM Orientation March 1 to 8

The most anticipated event of the year is brought to you by AuSM. Over two weeks, lunchtime and evening entertainment will feature music, comedians and performers as well as heaps of giveaways, stalls and competitions. This vibrant festival is not to be missed, it is a great way to start the year and meet new people!

Getting Around

Getting to AUT – The AUT website contains information on the various modes of transport that will get you to each campus.

Parking at AUT - Parking is limited at North Shore Campus and requires students to purchase a pay and display ticket. Parking in the City Campus is unavailable during the day for students due to high demand.

Public Transport - Information on Auckland’s buses trains and ferry services can be found at: Maxx Get your tickets from the AuSM office, full-time students save 40% on bus and train tickets! Don’t forget your student ID.

North Shore/City Campus shuttle – Buses go every 15min between 6.45am – 9.10pm Monday – Thursday, and 6.45am – 7.00pm Friday (Times vary during semester holidays). Get your shuttle tickets from AuSM offices.

Taxis – Catch a North Shore Taxi from the North Shore Campus and travel at Tariff 2 – the discounted travel rate! Or, travel with Green Cabs and save 20c per km on their standard rate ph: 0508 447 336.

Going out into the big wide world

AUT Career Services can provide career counseling, help with CV writing, hold workshops and events and assist with job searching!

Finding a job CareerHub is targeted at students and graduates to help them find:

  • Employment opportunities: graduate, internships, co-operative education placements, overseas, vacation, programme related jobs, work experience and employment scholarships
  • Upcoming events: employer recruitment presentations, career fairs, industry networking events and employment preparation workshops
  • Career resources: fact sheets, links, news and FAQs

Student Job Search – is a free employment service funded by AuSM. They list a wide range of roles over flexible durations which include; one-off, casual, fixed term, ongoing part-time and full-time.

Volunteering and Charity work – want to put some of your time toward a good cause? Checkout the AuSM charity database. You can usually donate as little or much of your time as you want. Work for a cause that you believe in and get great work experience at the same time!

Paying back your student loan – Did you know…The government has introduced a 10% student loan voluntary repayment bonus for voluntary repayments that total $500 or more in a tax year (1 April to 31 March). Check out the IRD website to find out the best way to pay off your student loan.
